The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is the national organization for children’s writers. They also have local chapters throughout the world.  You can find conferences and workshops in your area, where you can connect with other writers.   I can’t recommend this organization enough.

Verla Kay has put together a site for writers and illustrators.  There are writer’s tips, links, advice for getting started, a chat room, and much more.

One fabulous resource not to miss is the message board.
